We wrote about ChickAdvisor in January this year, but, after months of procrastinating, we finally joined - just in time to experience one of their fabulous Showcase events: high tea at the Fairmont Royal York, followed by product testing, writing reviews, and general good times. Here are some of our highlights!
Reunited and it feels so good
This was the first time we've seen each other since February, so you could say we were a little excited. Excited enough to try the PhotoBooth, even though we panicked at only having four seconds to exchange props in between pictures! It was fun catching up, especially in a place as elaborate as the Fairmont.
Location, Location, Location
The Fairmont Royal York is a glorious old building that opened in 1929 and, despite modern changes, carries a vintage feel. For one, the elevators are lined with green velvet! And for another, it oozes class and style - you definitely want to look your best when you're wandering those halls!
Because it was high tea, there were sandwiches and snacks galore - it was hard choosing our favourites!
Jane: I loved the lobster (crab?) slider on that salty, salty bun. So so tasty. I also loved the scones, especially dousing them in the cream that was so delicately laid out near them, that soon was destroyed by many ladies' spooning of it. For dessert, I was a big fan of some chocolate concoction as well as a strawberry mousse thing. Honestly I just felt fancy looking at it, let alone eating it all.
Sam: The crab/mango slider was easily the best savoury treat - a delightful mix of flavours on a super salty bun...mmm, just thinking about it makes my mouth water! As far as sweets go...well, I'm a bit of a chocoholic, so I'm going to have to go with the fudge-y cake thing (I don't even know what it's called) because it was rich and chocolate-y and everything I want in a dessert. But I also have to give a shout-out to the scones for being airy goodness. And, of course, I love me a good cuppa - I recommend the peppermint if you want something refreshing.
Best in Show(Case)
Jane: I am a big make-up person so I feel that I'm probably a bit critical when it comes to cosmetics. Having had very problematic skin, I've worked hard for years so I could find products that would good for my face. I've been around the block with cosmetics, is what I'm saying. That being said, I was a bit lukewarm on some of the things we tested, but I really did enjoy the Estee Edit primer (which I've used before), and the Loreal hair taming serum (smelled so good!). Of course, the best part was the yummy wine tasting that we got a little too excited about.
Sam: I'm not much of a make-up person, but it was fun trying stuff I don't often use (and I managed to avoid jabbing myself in the eye with a mascara brush so yay me!)! I've been wearing the Mary Kay "Poppy Please" lipstick all week to work and have received numerous compliments, so in terms of success, I'd say lipstick is the way to go! I did, however, also really enjoy the wine tasting...even though our table was a little overzealous and ended up finishing our glasses before the official tasting notes were given!
